This the last of our 2016 Series on “Spending More Time with God.” It has been the goal of this series to produce a desire in the child of God for more time with our Father. These lessons have not only encouraged us to spend time with God but to also make sure that it is good, quality time we are spending with God.
In this lesson, we focus on the importance for each of us to spend personal private time with God.
Spending More Time with God in Quiet Contemplation
Introduction:
meditation
Spending time in quietness and usually alone, drawing close to God and listening to him, pondering on his word, his creation, his mighty works or other aspects of his self-revelation (Manser, M. H. (2009). Dictionary of Bible Themes: The Accessible and Comprehensive Tool for Topical Studies. London: Martin Manser).
- How often do we really think about God? About Who He is? About What He has done for us? About His word to us?
- We need to separate ourselves from the business of our daily activities and spend time with God in quiet contemplation.
- As Isaac went out to meditate (probably prayer) (Gen. 24:63).
- As Jesus often went off by Himself to spend quiet time in prayer with His Father (Matt. 14:23; Luke 6:12; 9:18).
