Those Extending The Invitation
-
The Spirit
- Many times the Holy Spirit is referred to in representation of His work.
- John 3:3, 5; cf. 1 Cor. 12:13; 1 Pet. 1:22-25; Eph. 5:25-27
- The Spirit’s invitation to come is extended by means of the word He gave (2 Thess. 2:13, 14).
-
The Bride
- It is the work of the church, the bride of Christ (Rev. 21:2; Eph. 5:23), to make sure the invitation is extended to a sin sick world.
- Eph. 3:10, 11; 1 Tim. 3:15
-
Him Who Hears
- “Hears” – “to listen or pay attention to a person, with resulting conformity…obey” (Louw & Nida).
- Those who are hearing (present active verb) the invitation are the ones most eager to share it with others (cf. Rom. 1:14, 15; 1 Thess. 1:8-10).
-
-
Those Responding To The Invitation
- Him Who Thirsts – desire (cf. Ps. 63:1; Matt. 5:6).
- Whoever Desires – whoever (Jn. 3:16; Matt. 11:28; 1 Tim. 2:4; 1 Jn. 2:1, 2).
-
That To Which The Invitation Calls
- Jesus, The Root And Offspring Of David (Rom. 1:3).
- Jesus, The Bright And Morning Star (Num. 24:17; cf. Jn. 8:12; Prov. 4:18, 19; 1 Cor. 11:1; Eph. 5:1).
- Jesus, The Water Of Life (cf. Jn. 4:10, 14; Rev. 7:17; 21:6; Jn. 14:6).
