Edifying One Another: Working Together to Build Up the Church
1 Thessalonians 5:11
The Nature of Edification
- As Demonstrated by Its Contrasts
- 2 Corinthians 12:19-20
- These eight things are contrary to edification, i.e. it cannot exist where these eight things are present.
- As Demonstrated by Paul’s Example
- 2 Corinthians 12:19
- Paul’s example of doing “all things” for their edification:
- His goal was to “edify,” i.e. build them up.
- Including necessary correction (2 Cor. 7:8; 13:10).
- His purpose was to “build up” not destroy (2 Cor. 10:7-8).
The Methods of Edification
- Edification Through Teaching (1 Cor. 14:3-5; 2 Cor. 13:10; Eph. 4:11-12).
- Edification Through Humility (Rom. 14:19; 15:2; 1 Cor. 10:23).
- Edification Through Unity (1 Thess. 5:11; Eph. 4:16).
- Edification Through Our Example (Eph. 4:29).
- Edification Through Worship (1 Cor. 14:26).
- Edification Through Service (Eph. 4:16).
